Domains delegated to RNIDS

The task of administering the national Internet domains (the Latin .RS and the Cyrillic .СРБ) was delegated to RNIDS by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which administers the global system of Internet addresses and numbers and which delegates all the other country and generic Internet domains worldwide.

RNIDS operates the Central Registry of national Internet domains of Serbia in accordance with the decisions of ICANN.

The ICANN decision to delegate the .RS domain to RNIDS, on 11th September 2007, was based on competence evaluations of RNIDS, carried out by IANA, based on the following criteria:

  • that RNIDS had the operational and technical ability to administer the national domain
  • that there was fair and equal treatment of domain names registrants on a first-come, first-served basis
  • that it had support from the Government of the Republic of Serbia
  • that it had support from the local Internet community
  • that RNIDS had its registered office in Serbia

The ICANN decision to delegate the .СРБ domain to RNIDS, on 21st April 2011, was based on competence evaluations of RNIDS, carried out by IANA, based on the following criteria:

  • that the proposed designation “.срб” (".srb") met the technical requirements for a domain name
  • that there was a public interest in the existence of the Cyrillic domain, expressed through the support of the Ministry for Telecommunications and the Information Society and support from representatives of different sections of the local Internet community
  • that there would be stability since the new domain would be administered by the existing register
  • that RNIDS had proven its competence in the administration of the .RS domain
  • that RNIDS had its registered office in Serbia
