RNIDS at 19th TELFOR

As the biggest local and one of the most prestigious regional annual gatherings of experts in the field of telecommunications and information technologies, TELFOR has grown into a forum, within which all relevant matters regarding telecommunications are discussed, Internet being among them. RNIDS also participated in the activities of 19th Telecommunications Forum, with two topics. On November 22nd at 1pm, in the organisation of Digital Agenda, DiploFoundation, RNIDS and RATEL, there was a promotion of the book “Introduction to Internet Management” at an open table discussion. Both technical and regulatory aspects were covered at the discussion, with an accent on the manner in which the Serbian Internet is used and managed. These topics were presented by Mr Jovan Kurbalija, PhD, President of DiploFoundation and book author, Ms Jasna Matić, State Secretary for Digital Agenda, Mr Nenad Marinković, President of RNIDS, and Mr Milan Janković, PhD, President of RATEL, respectively. Extraordinary session of the Conference of Co‑founders

On September 24th 2011, an Extraordinary Session of the Conference of Co‑founders was held at the Home of Serbian Internet Domains, where new Management of RNIDS was elected for the two‑year term of the previous Board of Governors had expired. Out of 57 co‑founders of RNIDS, a total of 54 had their authorised representatives at the session of the Conference of Co‑founders. First, the new Chair of the Conference of Co‑founders, Vojislav Rodić, was elected, along with the Deputy Chair, Slobodan Marković. Then, new members of the RNIDS Board of Governors were elected: Staniša Josić, Snežana Božić, Dragomir Vasiljević, Nataša Radović, Aleksandar Pavlović, Dušan Stojičević and Zoran Buhavac. The discussion on the changes of RNIDS Foundation Statute was postponed until the next session due to the more thorough preparations of the necessary changes.

Find your favourite domain with Domain Star!

Eight European countries have partnered up to raise awareness on internet domains on Facebook and they have developed a game Domain Star which allows people to perform whois queries on Facebook using domain names in a playful way. Participating Countries to the application: Serbia (RNIDS), Austria (NIC.AT), France (AFNIC), Germany (DENIC), Poland (NASK), Finland (FICORA), Slovenia (ARNES) and Montenegro (Domen). This new Facebook application (http://apps.facebook.com/domainstar) tells you whether your first and last name is still available as domain name in the selected country as well as providing a link with where to register it. You can of course as well query any keyword as domain name and find out if it is free or not. Use the picture tool for sending interactive domain greetings to your friends and feel free to recommend funny domain names to them. Participating in the domain quiz will bring you points on your way to becoming a domain star. Fifth anniversary of RNIDS

The celebration of the fifth anniversary from establishing the Serbian National Internet Domain Registry took place at the Serbian Internet Domain Home. The Founding Assembly of RNIDS was held on July 8th 2006 and that date is celebrated as the Day of RNIDS. Mr Vojislav Rodić, one of 17 founders and participants of the Founding Assembly, Ms Snežana Božić, the President of the Conference of RNIDS Co‑founders and Mr Slobodan Marković, the moderator of programmes at the Serbian Internet Domain Home spoke at the celebration. RNIDS thanked people who had helped the organisation at its very beginning: PhD Đorđe Paunović, PhD Aleksandar Popović and PhD Neda Bokan. Professor Bokan addressed participants on their behalf. A five‑minute video on the most significant moments during five years of existence of RNIDS was broadcast. RNIDS helps best Internet popularisation projects

The Serbian National Internet Domain Registry will allocate non‑refundable assets to projects complying with the general aims and activities of the Foundation, just like last year. The objective of 2011 Programme of support to Internet popularisation projects is to promote the Internet as a publicly available resource, available to and required by all citizens of Serbia, and increase the scope of useful Internet content both in the Serbian language and languages of national minorities. All legal entities or entrepreneurs registered in the Republic of Serbia, as well as physical persons residing in the Republic of Serbia fulfilling general and specific conditions can apply for using non‑refundable assets from the programme of support to Internet popularisation projects. Proposed projects have to comply with the general aims and activities of RNIDS and the Strategy of developing the information society in the Republic of Serbia. Rulebook for Settling Domain Related Disputes presented

A roundtable discussion with the topic ‘Who does my Internet domain belong to?’ took place on June 14th at the Serbian Internet Domain Home, where the Rulebook on Arbitrage Proceedings for Settling Disputes Arising out of the Registration of .rs Domains and the Cooperation Agreement between the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Serbian National Internet Domain Registry were presented. The Rulebook regulates proceedings before the Commission for Settling Disputes, established under the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. It complies with the principles of ICAAN's Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Process (UDRP) and the .eu Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR EU) rules. The new Rulebook became effective on May 17th 2011. One of the major changes compared to the previous document is that the decision of the Commission for Settling Disputes Arising out of the Registration of .rs Domains needs not be final, since after the decision of the Commission the parties can also address a regular court in order to settle their dispute. Session of RNIDS Assembly held

A regular session of RNIDS Assembly was held on May 28th at the Serbian Internet Domain Home. Thirty‑seven members and more than twenty guests and media representatives attended the session. The Statute of the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names foundation was ratified at the session. It complies with the Law on Endowments and Foundations applicable as of March 1st 2011. According to the new Statute, RNIDS remains the same legal entity. What is different is that a new managing body, the Conference of Co‑founders, is introduced, taking the largest part of responsibilities of RNIDS Assembly, whilst a part of responsibilities is given to the Managing Board. What is also new is that the same person cannot be a member of the Managing Board and an authorised representative of a member of the Conference of Co‑founders. Cyrillic domain .срб became visible on the Internet

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) reached the decision to assign the management of the Cyrillic domain .срб to the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS). The Serbian Cyrillic Internet domain .срб became visible on the Internet on the May 3rd 2011 after updating the data in the root DNS tables. It means that it is possible now to use Cyrillic script and Serbian language in composing Internet addresses within the .срб domain space in DNS (Domain Name System). In November 2010, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) assigned the Cyrillic domain .срб to our country as the second country code Top Level Domain. On April 21st 2011, ICANN supported the request to delegate the management of the Cyrillic domain to RNIDS. This is a significant step to begin the process of registering Cyrillic domains.

ICANN supported request to delegate Cyrillic domain .срб to RNIDS

At the session held on April 21st, the Board of Directors of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) supported the request to delegate the management of the Cyrillic domain .срб to RNIDS. The letter we have received from ICANN reads: "This is a note to inform you that the ICANN Board of Directors passed a resolution today supporting the request to delegate the .xn‑‑90a3ac domain to Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS)." Upon receiving the support of the ICANN Board of Directors, the request of RNIDS is to be submitted to the U.S. Department of Commerce for final approval. This step in the procedure of establishing the Cyrillic top‑level domain makes us closer to fulfilling the requirements for the approaching commencement of the .срб domain registration process. During its first phase, only .rs domain users will be able to register .срб domain names. EuroDIG conference to be held in Belgrade in May

A conference dedicated to managing the Internet, EuroDig 2011, will be held on May 30th and 31st in Sava Centre, Belgrade. A wide range of topics will be open for discussion at the conference apart from exchanging attitudes on issues related to managing the Internet. EuroDig (European Dialogue on Internet Governance) is a European initiative launched in 2008 by representatives of the civil society, business sector, technical and academic community, as well as European Governments, institutions and organisations. This conference is the fourth of its kind to be held in a row, having previously been hosted by Madrid, Geneva and Strasbourg so far. Belgrade is the first city outside Western Europe which has the honour to host participants of this prestigious conference. EuroDig 2011 will be dealing with topics related to the policy of developing and regulating the Internet, such as: security, privacy and identity protection, the role and responsibility related to the use of new media, social networks, blogs, new economic models and business trends, along with the implementation of the Internet in education and public services. Assets collected during “Basket for Kraljevo” campaign donated

At the end of last year, the Basketball Federation of Serbia initiated an extensive humanitarian project called “Basket for Kraljevo" aimed at collecting assets for those affected by the earthquake in Kraljevo and its vicinity. The campaign was joined by the entire basketball organisation with approximately 15,000 members (basketball players, trainers, referees and clubs), from the youngest to the oldest ones, coming from all regions of Serbia and abroad. Through basketball matches and numerous events, they gathered assets to help Kraljevo. During the “Basket for Kraljevo” campaign, a total of 543,593.01 RSD were collected and donated to the heavily damaged elementary school “Svetozar Marković”. Apart from financial aid, the Basketball Federation of Serbia also donated 50 basketballs. The humanitarian campaign was finalised on April 15th and the Basketball Federation of Serbia handed in thank you letters to all participants as a means of acknowledging their contribution to the “Basket for Kraljevo” campaign. "E‑Trgovina 2011" conference held

The 11th international conference on e‑Commerce and e‑Business "E‑Trgovina" took place from 6th to 8th April in Palić. E‑Trgovina 2011 gathered over 300 participants, primarily businessmen, who had a chance to get acquainted with the current development of electronic business in Serbia and the region. The Е‑Trgovina conference represents a gathering place of both local and foreign experts from the field of electronic business with the aim of providing convention participants (entrepreneurs, managers, IT experts) with an analysis of the current situation, as well as highlight possible directions of the future development of electronic business. Е‑Trgovina AWARDS for the contribution to the development of electronic business in Serbia were presented during the Е‑Trgovina conference. These awards are traditionally given every year to the most successful projects in this field. The winners of this year’s awards are the National Information Technology and Internet Agency; the Serbian Business Registers Agency; Link group; Studio Moderna and the Association of Students from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering (SOSF).
