Invitation to municipalities to register domains

The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities have initiated a joint public campaign to remind more than a hundred municipalities to register their .rs domains. We have invited 36 registrars to contact in the days to come administrations in towns and municipalities that have still not registered .rs domains and ask them to do so in due date. Enclosed with a letter to registrars is a list of municipalities without the new .rs domain. Two organisations intend to invite authorities through media to perform this significant task as soon as possible. This will make it simple for local self‑governments to present themselves online. Otherwise, somebody else may rent their domain and use it for their own purposes.

.AC.RS domain delegated to Academic Network

The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society of Serbia informed RNIDS that the management of the .ac.rs address space should be left to the Conference of the Universities of Serbia (Konus) which should determine conditions for domain registration for all accredited high‑education institutions ‑ faculties and institutes. The Conference of the Universities of Serbia has already decided that the University of Belgrade, representing the Academic Network from its establishment, is the legal entity to which this task should be entrusted. The Conference of the Universities of Serbia immeditately required that the procedure of migrating from the existing .ac.yu to the new .ac.rs domain should be prepared and carried out for all legal entities (31 faculties and institutes), without any limitations. Until the end of the year, the Accademic Network of Serbia must define rules and submit them to Konus for ratification.

Farewell to .yu domain, .yu domain extension for the interested

For all companies and associations which have not yet migrated to the .rs domain and still use the .yu domain, the additional registration period will last from November 3rd 2008 until March 2nd 2009. After that period, unrenewed .yu domains will stop functioning on the Internet. That, however, is not all: the additional term for renewing .yu domains will begin on March 3rd, 2009 and end on April 30th, 2009. Those who renew their domains, will reanimate their Websites on the Internet; remaining .yu domains, which are not renewed by that date, will be permanently deleted from the register on May 4th, 2009. Moreover, maintaining the .yu register of domain names, as well as providing information on .yu domains on the Internet will end on September 30th, 2009, regardless of the renewal date. On the very day, .yu domains will stop functioning on the Internet for good! Unless a company or an association renews the registration of www.companyname.co.yu until March 2nd, 2009, its Website and e‑mail will stop functioning on the Internet as of this date. In case the company decides to renew the registration of www.companyname.co.yu until April 30th, 2009, its Website and e‑mail will be reactivated on the Internet until the last day of using the .yu domain, i.e....

40,000th .rs domain registered

The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) would like to inform the public that the 40.000th .rs domain (е‑business.co.rs) was registered in Kovin, 15 days after the registration of the 35.000th one. In the meantime, RNIDS organised a mini land rush, the result being expected, though not so fast. We believe that such a growth of registered domains means a continuous growth of serious content on the Internet, i.e. the more interesting content of the local Internet for all its users, as well as a growth in the number of Internet users and online content, which will bring us closer to the rest of the world. RNIDS expects this tempo to continue and the 45.000th .rs domain to be registered soon.
