Initial registration period for .RS IDN domains

The initial registration period for .RS IDN domains begins on 10/12/2018 at 12 noon. In this period, registrants of existing .RS domains will have the right to register IDN domain names (using the extended character set). Registrants of new .RS domains registered during this period will also be able to register a corresponding .RS IDN.

.RS IDNs can be registered during this period with the accredited registrar (AR) with whom the corresponding .RS domain is already registered.

On expiry of the initial registration period on 5/3/2019 at 12 noon, the open registration of IDNs will begin within the .RS domain, meaning that anybody will be able to register them, regardless of whether or not they already have a registered .RS domain.

RNIDS’ registration fees for .RS IDNs will be the same as the fees for registration of the corresponding .RS domain in all domain spaces (.RS, .CO.RS, .ORG.RS, .EDU.RS, .IN.RS).

Rule for the registration of IDN domain names in the initial period

During the initial registration period, a simple rule will apply: that IDNs can be created only if they directly substitute single IDN characters for single ASCII letters (one-to-one substitution).

In practical terms this means that only the registrant of cevapcic.rs will be able to register ćevapčić.rs, and nobody else. This also means that someone who has already registered cvarak.rs will also be able to register čvarak.rs, but not someone who has registered chvarak.rs, since “ch” consists of two characters, and the rule requires a one-to-one correspondence. The registrant of chvarak.rs can register čhvarak.rs or ćhvarak.rs, but not čvarak.rs. Here are a few more examples:

Procedure for the registration of IDN domain names in the initial period

  1. The registrant submits a request via RNIDS’ website to register a .RS IDN, entering the following data:
    1. Name of the existing .RS domain of which he/she is the registrant
    2. Name of the .RS IDN he/she wishes to register based on the existing .RS domain
    3. The email address which is already registered as the contact address for the existing .RS domain.
  2. After validation of the application (verification of the IDN’s compliance with the rules of registration) and the accuracy of the data supplied, the registrant will receive an email at the address provided comprising the following data:
    1. Name of existing .RS domain and of new .RS IDN
    2. Transaction ID number
    3. Verification link
  3. After receiving confirmation the registrant confirms registration of the .RS IDN domain by clicking on a verification link
  4. The registrant receives an email with confirmation that the application has successfully passed RNIDS verification
  5. The registrant contacts the accredited registrar (AR) with whom the existing .RS domain was registered, and completes the .RS IDN registration period (pays the fee)
  6. The AR confirms that that the application for registration and the new .RS IDN have been registered – i.e. that the Registry database data on the registrant, the administrative and technical contact and the DNS servers for the .RS IDN are identical to those already entered for the registrant’s existing .RS domain. This can be verified using RNIDS’ WHOIS service (if the registrant is a legal entity and if WHOIS protection is activated – the data of private individuals will not be shown)

Transfer of old domain (change of AR)/h3>

Is it possible to change ARs during the process of registering an IDN domain?

If the old domain is transferred from one AR to another before registration of the IDN domain is completed, the IDN registration application will be transferred to the other AR and that AR will complete the process of registering the IDN.

Changing the registrant of the old domain

Is it possible to change the registrant of the existing .RS domain during the process of registering an IDN domain?

If a change of registrant of the old domain is requested before the registration of the IDN domain has been carried out, it will not be approved until the latter is completed.
