Special issue of RNIDS News on DIDS 2011 conference

The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) published a special issue of RNIDS News dedicated to the recently held Serbian Internet Domain Day conference, celebrating the third anniversary of the .rs domain registration. The conference, organised by the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS), took place on March 10th in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. The DIDS 2011 conference was dedicated to the development of the Internet within the domain space of Serbia. Numerous local and foreign experts participated and took an active part in the conference. The special issue of RNIDS News presents impressions of Mr Berislav Todorović, the head technical strategist, designer and network architect of the international IP/MPLS backbone of KPN, a Dutch carrier; Mr Wim Degezelle, Communications Manager at CENTR; Mr Leonid Todorov, Deputy Director for External Relations in the Russian Internet Registry; Ms Monika Pink‑Rank, the Head of PR, Marketing and Project Management Department with the Austrian Internet Domain Registry (nic.at); Mr Vladimir Radunović, the coordinator of the Internet Governance and Policy educational and training programmes with DiploFoundation, a non‑governmental organisation, ans Mr Ivan Ćosić, a well‑known blogger and administrator of “Dizajnzona” [Designzone]. Serbian Internet Domain Day conference held

March issue of RNIDS News

The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) published the March issue of RNIDS News, which represents an internal journal of RNIDS and contains current information on the operation and activities of RNIDS both in Serbia and abroad. In the March issue of the News, RNIDS announces Serbian Internet Domain Day (DIDS), a one‑day conference celebrating this year the third anniversary of the .rs domain registration. The event will take place in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce on March 10th 2011. The conference, dedicated to the development of the Internet within the domain space of Serbia, will gather creative people and experts in the field of the Internet and IT. The central topics of the conference are: plans and activities of RNIDS and experience of European Internet registries; the process of .срб domain introduction; limited domain resources and political aspects of domain allocation; intellectual property on the Internet and the domain as a brand; hi‑tech crime, privacy and responsibility for Internet content. January issue of RNIDS News

The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) published the January issue of RNIDS News, which represents an internal journal of RNIDS and contains current information on the operation and activities of RNIDS both in Serbia and abroad. In the January issue of the News, RNIDS presents a Proposal of Rules and Processes for Registering the Cyrillic Domain .срб which have already gone through a public discussion. Two documents are proposed; one regulates the initial period of .срб domain registration, whilst the other contains rules to be applied for open registration of .срб domain names. During the initial registration period, .срб domain names for the needs of RNIDS will be registered first, then domain names for the needs of the state will be reserved and in the end .срб domain names will be reserved for each and every registered .rs domain name, by offering registrants domain names transliterated from the Latin to the Cyrillic script. Upon termination of the initial period of registering .срб domain names, the process of open registration shall commence. Educating farmers online

Within ‘the development of new Internet services’ category, the association called ‘Novi početak’ [New Beginning] from Bačka Topola has initiated a project for organising an online system of remote education intended for agricultural producers at the following Website: www.edukacija.org.rs. This is one of the projects co‑financed by the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS). The project is aimed at providing material for educating farmers within the following systems: “Farm owners with silver ears of corn” and “Farm owner with golden ears of corn”, which adhere both to European and local regulations on education in extracurricular educational system. The project will enable agricultural producers learn according to their capacities and needs. Internet use, education methods and learning materials are meant to assist them to develop a need for browsing and finding professional materials and analyses. Its final aim is to help agricultural producers reach a higher level of Internet use and accept it as a means of learning. Photo archive digitalisation project of Museum of Yugoslav History

As part of the projects co‑financed by the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS), within ‘the development of new Internet services’ category, the Museum of Yugoslav History (MYH) has initiated the "MYH on‑line” project, available at www.foto.mij.rs. The digitalisation project of the photo archive belonging to the Museum of Yugoslav History represents a cooperation of museum, archive and information experts in the aim of obtaining new ways of accessing cultural heritage. Project activities included research (material selection activities), museum archive conservation through digitalisation, development of material processing solutions and network interactive access to material displayed. The “MYH on‑line” project implies, in the shape of a universal message, the influence of photography to understanding and perceiving historical moments, and the way they are transformed from a vision of a single person (a photographer) to an image of collective memory. Through the "MYH on‑line” project, MYH photo archive digitalisation will provide all visitors of the virtual MYH with the possibility of better understanding and reexamining the relationship between photos and collective memory of events they document. RNIDS and Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society signed Agreement on Cooperation

Today, an Agreement on Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society and the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) at the Serbian Government building. The Agreement was signed by Minister Jasna Matić and Director of RNIDS Nenad Marinković. The Agreement regulates principles on which RNIDS operates and cooperates with the relevant ministry. It also defines obligations of RNIDS related to its status, the manner of performing its activities, transparency of its operation, providing equality in the registration process, assuring accessibility and availability of critical parts of the Internet infrastructure, as well as acting of Agreement Parties in case of problems. New co‑financed projects available on the Internet

Within ‘the development of new Internet services’ category, ‘Zvrk’ Website, one of the projects co‑financed by the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS), has developed a dictionary dedicated to children aged four to twelve. The audio‑visual dictionary at www.zvrk.rs translates certain terms into English, each word is graphically illustrated and its pronunciation is available. Dictionary terms are separated by categories: Colours, Numbers, Flowers, Insects, Alphabets, Planets, Vegetables, Vehicles, Birds, Family relations, Sports and Fruit. The search functionality is also enabled. The introduction of an online dictionary and audio‑visual contents in Italian is also planned as to further enhance the Website. Within ‘the development of new Internet services’ category, RNIDS has also co‑financed a project initiated by the Municipal Assembly of Vranje which involves support to agricultural producers for accessing the Internet and assistance in marketing their products online. At www.itfarmer.rs, agricultural producers can find all necessary information on price trends of fruit, vegetables, milk and dairy products, cereals and cattle in Vranje and its vicinity. Regular session of RNIDS Assembly held

A regular session of the Assembly of the Serbian National Register of Interned Domain Names (RNIDS) was held on December 18th at the Serbia Hotel. Thirty‑three members attended the session where the Financial Plan of RNIDS for 2011 was ratified. The Assembly members were acquainted with activities related to the procedure for regulating and introducing the Cyrillic domain and ratified the Draft on Cooperation with the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society and the Agreement on Cooperation with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce with Regard to Organising Proceedings for Settling Disputes Arising out of the Registration of .rs Domains, along with the new Rulebook. A proposal that RNIDS become a member of the e‑Razvoj (e‑Development) Association was accepted.
